The Ultimate Halloween Party Mix

When choosing music for a party it can be really hard to please everyone's musical tastes. You're sitting with you're friends on iTunes or Spotify or whatever you like to use trying to pick songs and you inevitably have the one girl to your left saying "I just heard this new band, you probably haven't heard of them but..." The classic rap vs. country battle to your right and of course a guy yelling "No top 40!" in your ears.
The bonus of having a themed party is the music can match your theme and cause less fights doing so. To put your mind at ease I've put together a small Halloween playlist to get your started and put your mind at ease. It's a classy mix of genres combining old and new, classic and contemporary with hopefully a few songs you haven't thought of yet.

Winter Wedding

I must say I was pretty proud of the way my sister and I ended up looking at our cousins wedding recently. Rolling out the LBD's and spicing them for a fancy affair! Our outfits were very different from each other. My sisters being more sophisticated and mine being more floaty and "young" I suppose.

Rocking some ever so trendy velvet in a dress from Forever 21 for $23.80
Opaque tights from Superstore for $6
Black oxfords from Aldo for $40! Amazeballs!
My gold necklace is from Garage for $16.90
Old Navy earrings. You can't see them too well but they are big gold ball studs. I've had them a very long time, I can't even give an estimate of the price.
For a wee little flirty touch I wore OPI's Elefantastic Pink and OPI's Glitzerland on my nails.

Holly went for the sophisticated feel with some cute touches. I know none of the prices of her clothes, sorry.
Her dress was great Target find!
Opaque tights were from Superstore, they were $6, I knew that one!
Her shoes were from Payless Shoes Source's childrens section
Her bracelet is from a Stella and Dot jewelry party.
Her stud earring and hair bow are from Forever 21

Enjoy your next Winter Weddng!!

My Ricky Rubio Story

Good evening! Pull up a chair and prepare yourself for one of the greatest moments of my young life! This story is about my trip to see my very favourite basketball player and the twists and turns to get the drawing my dad made for me signed by him.

This past week my family drove over 600 km to Minneapolis to the Timberwolves Clippers game at the Target centre. You see, my sister is a huge fan of Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan fan and if you ever see her, be sure to ask for her story! And I love Minnesota's point guard, Ricky Rubio!

My dad, the artist of Mike Ayotte Artwork drew my sister and I some fantastic pictures in hopes to get them signed at the game.

From left to right: Blake Griffin, DeAndre Jordan, Ricky Rubio

The evening did not start well, our dinner went late and we got stuck in rush hour traffic and we missed the chance to get our favourite players to sign our drawing before the game. Our chances of getting the autographs became much lower now. On the brink of tears we became desperate and tried absolutely everything!

We begin with the security guard watching our section. I'm not sure of his name so we'll just call him "The Security Guard." I showed him the work and he really wanted to give some answers, so he told me to try to get on the big screen, Ricky might see it, or else try the tunnel after the game. Thanks man! You were my first glimpse of hope!

Starting the warm up
Then out my sister and my feisty determination, we took the posters and got as close to VIP section next to the court as possible while they were warming up. Not allowed I'm pretty sure, as I watched my sister get kicked out of where she was standing. I however had some better luck! Security guard Mike asked me if I wanted to go to the front row! I was on the court just waiting for Ricky to look in the right direction!
Just meters away from Ricky!
Then, Ricky's teammate, unfortunately I didn't catch who it was, gave him a friendly nudge to look my way and then I got a smile and head nod from Ricky Rubio!! And my heart swiftly flew out of my chest!

Security guard Mike then told us Ricky probably won't be able to come off the court at that time and told us to go to the tunnel again after the game. Thank you so much security guard Mike!

Rubio and Griffin during the game
So the game went by and my sister and I went our separate ways to find our boys! But the wolves went right on by so I followed into the tunnel. After some frantic thinking and searching, I saw the man who MC's the game standing in the tunnel. So I asked him and with the help of a young security guard they directed me to the garage where the players leave the stadium. He also warned me that Ricky can be shy and doesn't normally stop in his car. Thank you MC! Nobody's quitting now!

Out I went with my dad with about 5 other fans waiting outside the garage. Then, someone who must be a diehard fan of the wolves informed me the type car Ricky drives so I could be prepared! Thank you fan!

So we waited in the winter weather watching and smiling at other players driving by. Then the moment of truth! Ricky Rubio driving out and me almost running completely in front of his car, but he rolled his window down his window, drove right up to me and let me shove my picture in the car and signed it for me! I let out "Thank you very much!" and a "Gracias!" forgot my "Te quiero mucho" but I was far too excited to remember! Thank you so, so much Ricky!!

So this story has many, many people involved who were absolutely wonderful! And unfortunately none of them will probably know how crucial they were and how appreciative and thankful I am for their help and support. So thank you Dad for drawing me this wonderful picture and taking me to the game! thank you "The Security Guard" Thank you security guard Mike. Thank you teammate! Thank you MC and young security guard! Thank you fellow fans and man who told me what car to look for! And Thank you so very, very much Ricky Rubio for stopping for me and making the long trip completely amazing!!

There it is! A Mike Ayotte piece signed by Ricky Rubio!

The Clothes I Hate: Volume 1

The Clothes I Hate: Volume 1
Now I tend to be a pretty positive person. Happy and such but there are some pieces of clothing or stylistic choices I just hate. Pieces that don't flatter anyone, outfits I thought were unwritten "no-no's" and things that simply make no sense. So today, we begin a new series of posts consisting of all the clothes I hate.
The Clothes I Hate: Volume 1 - Vests
I really don't understand vests... at all. Everyone's like "Oh this toasty, cozy vest is so warm and stuff" but all I see is a jacket with no sleeves. What good does that do on a cold day? This excludes fancy man vests. Those are just to look fancy at work and at black tie events so we're not going to think about those in this volume.

The History of my Hatred: It could be the fact that I live in a cold climate and I've never experienced a need to warm my torso while letting my terribly warm arms take in the arctic wind! But I first realized I hated vests when I went in to my outdoor work area on a chilly October morning (Trust me, it's cold then) and I see my coworker wearing the sleeveless uniform shirt... and a vest. What? Zero sense was made that day.

At this moment you might be thinking "Blaire, that is not enough reason to hate vests" Well let me count the ways pour vous.
The Puffy Vest: They give me a socks and sandles vibe (And I know that is an unwritten rule everybody knows!) It's either warm enough for one or cold enough for the other, never both! I don't know about you but like the rest of my body, my arms are affected by the temperature too. Typically, affected the same amount as my torso. So why does my torso get a nice cozy hug while my arms are completely neglected and fall off from hypothermia?

The Denim Vest: The Denim vest shouldn't even be considered an article of clothing. If anything, it's an accessory that like the puffy vest, makes no sense to me. I find it a try hard piece. Like "Look at my denim vest with fringe and a leather patch! I am so totally a rocker chick!" or "Look at my peace sign button on my denim vest! I am so totally a hippie!" No. It's a jean jacket with no sleeves that gets dressed up to exaggerate a personality.

The Fur Vest: Last but not least, the root of my madness! I had recently come across this lovely fur vest in my house. And the fur vest reminds me of everything but what I'm sure the wearer wants me to perceive.
 A Viking

A Pimp in the Summertime

I don't mean to offend anyone. If I insulted you're love if vests then I am very sorry. I won't judge you. But I just don't like vests and I wanted to share that with you.
Keep Watch for Volume 2!

Fall OOTD

Happy almost Canadian Thanksgiving! I've spent the Saturday pre-gaming by eating as much as I can and getting my grocery shopping on!

While picking some stuff up at The Real Canadian Superstore a lady working told me I "looked lovely today" So you might agree!

Basics can be so fun!
So what are we rocking today?
Let's work from the bottom up. Those leggings are from Forever 21 and you can't see but I went a little risque and they only go halfway down my calf! I know! Rawr ;)
My top is a black ballerina tee from Garage, created in Montreal.
My snazzy piece of arm candy is my trusty Betsey Johnson watch. Some day I'll do a whole post on that little lady and her story.
Finally, the piece de resistance! My go-to leopard print infinity scarf. $15 from Aldo.

Pink Pearl Pop by MAC

I finished off the entire look with a coat of "Pink Pearl Pop" by MAC on my lips. The pop of pink made this outfit a little more fun.

   Happy Fall!!

Tuesday, October 1, 2013

We getting closer and closer to the most wonderful time of the year! But we can't ignore the wonderful-ness that is fall! Make room for dark colours and copious amounts of pumpkin s*it because I need to get into the autumn-y mood.

First of all I need to get this off my chest now before I get into any of the other stuff. When I was at my cabin in August I saw an ad the most beautiful nail polish ever! I am not kidding, I stared at this ad for probably a total of 2 hours for the weekend. I'm not normally a fan of galaxy print, in fact I get anxiety attacks when I think of space at all so can we end this trend please? No? It's never going leave my life? Whatever because I have the sexiest nail polish in existence and it looks like galaxy print! It's Essie's For the Twill of it and I can't get enough of it!
The Nail Porn
I've unfortunately caught the same disgusting cold as everyone else. Probably from being cooped up with a bunch of germy kids again after having sweet space and outdoorsy time for three months. When I get sick I'm insanely hungry all the time, my mum used to tell me it's because my body is working hard and I need to sustain it, but I think I just get too lazy to control myself. So I've been feeding myself these delicious chunky soups! I had never had one until about a week ago and now I'm addicted and I just can't get enough!
I just can't get enough, I just can't enough!
Shhhhh.... colour whisper is actually a fantastic lipstick! I have a couple from this Maybeline line and I recently picked up "Berry Ready" and it's amazeballs! I normally wear pink lipsticks and this is my first really good red and it's just so... perfect, for me. I'm really pale and this is a really rich colour with still a bit of a pinky undertone and it doesn't wash me out.

Keeping on the Maybeline theme the Age Rewind under eye concealer has really impressed me. I pretty much don't sleep and my eyes need a lot of help in the morning and honestly, I don't think drug store brands get enough credit, this concealer is creamy, doesn't get clumpy, and "fair" is my perfect match and covers every hour of lost sleep!
Bath and Body Works came out with their fall scents. Enough said.
Pumpkin Cupcake and Scarlet Pumpkin...... MWAH!
Finally a music pick. At the end of August I purchased The Treble's Northern Lights album and it is fantastic! I've barely listened to anything else since I bought it. It's really easy listening you can chill out to it or get your dance on to it if you're into that.

How To Look Like you Walked out of Pinterest

For a long time I have been addicted to Pinterest! And recently I have taken on plenty of trendy looks I've found on Pinterest and my sister told me I look like I've "walked out of Pinterest." I then thought, there could be plenty of other lovely ladies who may want the straight-out-of-Pinterest look but don't exactly know how. So, I have created a very simple step by step guide to get the whimsical Pinterest look. Prepare yourself for plentiful wolf whistles and  to be the envy of every woman you pass! Let's Begin!

Step One: The Base.
Pinterest is full of classy outfits and expensive pieces but really ladies, who needs that? Accessories are where it's at in the Pinter-sphere, so begin with a classic base of jeans (or denim shorts) and a black tee.

Step Two: The Nails
A good start is to know which kind of nails we're talking about. If you were thinking of the sharp silver things you hammer into walls, you may need to spend some more time on Pinterest. And if you were thinking something a little naughtier, you may need to spend less time in the humour section. We're talking fingernails, and whether you have ghetto fabulous stiletto nails or chopped up nubs, you can make these babies look fabulous with the help of the lovely Pinterest! Find a style you love and make it work! I personally chose the ring-finger-painted-a-different-colour look.

 Unacceptable Styles:
-French
-Chunky flowers that scream "I don't pick my nose!" Trust me, I believe you
-The same colour on every nail

Step Three: Arm Candy
The most delicious trend on Pinterest! For those who are not aware of what arm candy is, it's the stacking of watches and bracelets. This trend is normally begun with a Michael Kors watch but ain't nobody got money for that so just do what you please. I say the bigger the better and the more the merrier! Take advantage of this to show off every aspect of your style and shove it all on!
Step Four: Keeping your Edge
Every time I wear studs or spikes I can't get out of my house without someone mentioning how wonderfully edgy I look amongst all my Pinterst-y sweetness. You may choose to wear a Pinterest approved tattoo, but that's not really my thing so today I've chosen to keep my edge with another popular pin and rock my sick knuckle rings. Awe yeah.

Step Five: Mustaches
I have loved mustaches since I was a mere child and try to embrace the fact every day that it's currently acceptable for a lady to adorn men's facial hair.

ALMOST THERE!
Step Six: Chevron
It's no secret that chevron is the almighty, cherished symbol of Pinterest! Don't you dare to even try to call yourself a Pinterest girl if you don't own a single piece with this glorious pattern! And if I hear any of you call it "zig zag" I will find you!
So go find your chevron and put it on your body!

At this point, I would head on over to a good friend of the Pinterest girl called Instagram! And post a little something on your efforts.

Finally... Step Seven: The Hair
On Pinterest there are plenty of hairstyles to choose but I believe you either go big or go home! So personally I stay away from the generic yet ever popular side braid. However if you can do some sweet, intricate braids or a hefty fishtail you go for it!
So I opted for my favourite Pinterest hairdo..... THE BOW BUN!

CONGRATULATIONS!
You have successfully completed the step by step guide to looking like you walked out of Pinterest! And since we're the sweet, charming ladies we claim to be, I must say...
